Customs I&I seizes non-duty paid vehicles worth millions of rupees from Punjab Police

LAHORE: Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation has impounded three luxury vehicles worth millions of rupees from various organs of Punjab Police, sources told Customs Today.

The sources said that these vehicles were in use of the police for a long time and were illegally grabbed from the users of the vehicles who brought the vehicles illegally for their own use but were held by the police.

The sources said that anti car lifting cell of City division Lahore, during a general hold up, detected non-customs paid Honda Civic bearing registration no. LEE 14/7006 from Babar Javaid and other and instead of informing Customs authorities kept using for themselves.

The customs authorities after getting information approached the police high-up and recovered the car from police and seized it.  The sources said that the total value of the car is estimated as Rs 1 million.

Similarly the customs authorities seized two non- customs vehicles one Honda City car AXA/ 757 and the second Toyota Hilux BL/5445 from the CIA police district Okara which they recovered from the users who brought the vehicles illegally for their use, the sources said.  The vehicles were bearing Sindh numbers.

It was added that the CIA Okara police instead of informing the customs authorities used the vehicles illegally for a long time.

The sources said that on information the customs authorities approached the police high-ups and seized the vehicles from the illegal possession of the CIA Police Okara district.

Other sources on the condition of anonymity told Customs Today a large number of non-customs paid vehicles are held by police countrywide during general hold-ups and seldom reported the authorities concerned.

On the other hand, City Division Lahore and District Okara police said that the allegations are baseless as they handed over the vehicles to the customs authorities at once after fulfilling the legal formalities.
