KARACHI: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has decided to bring some changes in its anti-smuggling squad, so that the action against the smuggling cartels should be launched with full force, it is learnt here.
Sources informed Customs Today that the high-ups of the FBR have decided to write a letter to the Federal Interior Ministry in connection with the availability of latest and well equipped arms for the Customs authorities at sea-ports and airports in order to curb smuggling activities.
The sources said that the FBR will approach the Ministry of Interior by the end of this current month with some recommendations and suggestions in connection with making the anti-smuggling squad more effective and result-oriented.
Replying to a query, the sources said that the Chairman-FBR Nisar Muhammad Khan has asked the Chief Collector-Enforcement (South) Muhammad Zahid Khokhar to make a comprehensive proposal in this regard, so that the Pakistan Customs, particularly the Customs Collectorate Preventive would get more advanced equipments, so that they can detect the contraband items in no time and avert the smuggling attempt in order to save the national exchequer.
It is pertinent to mention here that the former Collector Preventive Syed Muhammad Tariq Huda was also wrote a letter to the authorities concerned of Federal Interior Ministry in order to sanction more powers to the state-run Pakistan Customs as federal agency, so that it can perform its working with more affection.
Nevertheless, the FBR high-ups have decided to take the said recommendations before the federal government in the larger interest of the state and its people.
