KARACHI: The Customs Court sent suspect namely Siddiqui Ullah son of Saleh Jan to customs department on physical remand, who was booked in a case of attempting to smuggle non-duty paid Iranian smuggled glassware/crockery and betel nuts.
On July 5, 2019, investigation officer of Directorate of Intelligence & Investigation-FBR submitted first information report (FIR) against Sailab Khan, owner/proprietor of M/s Al-Ahsan Goods Transport Company, Saadullah Mama (consigner of the offending goods as per transportation bilty of M/s Al-Ahsan Goods Transportation Company) and informed the court that on an actionable information, customs team intercepted a Hino truck/trailer bearing registration number: TLM-522.
He further informed that on cursory checking the said vehicle was found loaded with assorted Iranian glassware/crockery inside the container, on query, the driver informed that crockery is present inside the container and he produced a bilty regarding crockery of said importer, issued in the name of one Saadullah Mama and the goods were to be received by sales office Karachi.
Investigation officer said that on demand the driver could not produce any legal import documents in support of glassware/crockery and further checking of container on the spot revealed that container is having a false compartment inside by fabricating a partition of steel wall between the inner space of the container, therefore, when further search was conducted than also recovered 11,050 kg of smuggled betel nuts.
He said that prosecution needs further investigation for arrest of absconding suspects and other culprits, therefore, court may send back him to customs department.
After the hearing, court sent suspect on physical remand and directed investigation officer to produce him on next date of hearing along with progress report.
