Customs Intelligence, collectorates decide to increase information sharing

ISLAMABAD: The information sharing system between Customs Intelligence and Investigation and collectorates will be strengthened more by adopting the modern technology in order to weed out the smuggling.

This was decided in a high-level meeting of Customs Intelligence and Customs North Region. It is also learnt here that over the next couple of days, a final decision will be made, whether joint operation of Customs Intelligence and Investigation and Customs North Region against smuggling to be continued or not. A final strategy regarding the joint operations will be formed after having guidance from the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).

The three-hour long meeting was attended by Customs Intelligence Director General Imtiaz Ahmad Khan, Customs North Chief Collector Sarwat Tahira Habib, Islamabad Customs Collector Dr Arslan Subuctageen, Customs Intelligence Director Muhammad Saleem, Additonal Director Abdul Waheed Marwat, Additional Collector Sharley Khan, Deputy Director Khaldoonul Haq and other officers from Sialkot, Peshawar and Gilgit-Baltistan.

After the meeting, Deputy Director Khaldoonul Haq while talking to Customs Today said that the officers also reviewed the anti-smuggling activities conducted so far during current fiscal year and also compared them with the performance of last year. It was also observed that joint operations proved milestone against the smuggling and illegal trade, as a sharp decline has been observed during the said period, he said.

In the meeting, the performance of the officers and officers was also hailed. It was also decided to expedite the operation against smuggling and illegal trade causing loss of millions of rupees by using all resources. The FBR will be approached if any lack of resources was observed while conducting joint operations against the smuggling, he said.
