Customs Intelligence impounds non-duty paid Mercedez Benz from Bahria Town

ISLAMABAD: Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation of the Federal Board of Revenue, Rawalpindi, has impounded a non-duty paid Mercedez Benz S-550 Model 2007 worth Rs 20.57 million.

Sources told Customs Today that On November 21, 2016, Additional Director Customs I&I Abdul Waheed Marwat received information that a non-customs paid vehicle is being driven in Bahria Town.

Soon after receiving the information, he constituted a raiding team comprising staff of the directorate and proceeded to Bahria Town. The team detained Mercedez Benz S 55 Model 2007 bearing registration number BEP 206 from parking area of Phase-7 Midway Commercial Area Bahria Town Islamabad.

The team waited for almost six hours on spot but no one appeared or came forward to claim its ownership. After this the vehicle was taken into the custody in presence of Security In-charge Bahria Town and other witnesses. When Directorate checked import record of said vehicle, no import data found regarding the vehicle. After this the vehicle was detained as per section 17 of Customs Act, 1969 and brought to office for further investigations. The appraisement staff of Islamabad Dry Port appraised the customs value of detained vehicle as Rs20.57 million. The report has been submitted for information to the Director General.

According to the sources of Customs I&I the detain vehicle is belong to a prominent builder. After the detention of said vehicle the builder contacted to the directorate staff but he failed to produce the legal documents.
