Customs Intelligence impounds vehicles, goods worth Rs 208.4m in September

ISLAMABAD: The Directorate General of Customs Intelligence and Investigation impounded vehicles and miscellaneous items worth Rs 208.469 million while conducting operations all over country during September 2016.

The intelligence confiscated foiled various smuggling attempts by saving national economy from huge financial losses and registered 80 cases, besides arresting two suspects. It also confiscated one kilogramme opium during an action.

As per details, it impounded 26 vehicles worth Rs 33.9 million under Section 157 of Customs Act, 1969 and 27 non-duty paid vehicles worth Rs 89.734 million from all over country.

It also confiscated electronics worth Rs 10.923 million, 23,000kg food grains worth Rs 2.283 million, 130,661 yards of foreign origin cloth worth Rs 10.898 million, 248,500 litres of diesel worth Rs 12.965 million, 78,000 litres of petrol worth Rs 348,000, 46,318 cartons of cigarettes worth Rs 985,100, pan parag and 456 tins of saffron valued at Rs 200,000 and gutka worth Rs 2.525 million and miscellaneous goods worth Rs 37 million.

FBR Chairman Nisar Muhammad Khan hailed the performance of the directorate during first quarter, besides directing to expedite the operations against smugglers.
