SIALKOT: Customs Intelligence and Investigation Department, Gujranwala Region, has launched a crackdown on shops and markets to curb sale of smuggled goods.
An official of the department told Customs Today that the Director General Shaukat Ali has launched the campaign against shopkeepers who are involved in selling smuggled items. He said that the Director General is taking keen interest in curbing smuggling as directed by Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Chairman Nisar Mohammad Khan. He said that the officials are tightening nose around smugglers necks.
He said that the Director General appreciated the performance of field staff on roads to checking the vehicles to curb smuggling. While Director General directed that the field staff also should raids of shops and markets to nab those are selling smuggled items. He said that the Director General announced who official will show best performance then the department will announce reward for them whereas the field staff should make best performance and try to curb smuggling because the smuggling is not better for development of country.
He said that the field staff will not accept any political or other pressure to release nabbed shopkeepers. He told that the raids on shops and markets will change the atmosphere while the smuggled items will be confiscated and the shopkeepers compel to sell the items which prepare in the country.
He told that on the recommendation of FBR he has appointed deputy director and assistant director at Gujranwala Region whereas the shortage of staff will end soon because the Director General has vowed to solve the matter of staff shortage. Office Superintendent Sajjad Rubanni told that the campaign against shopkeepers has been launched who are selling smuggled items while the staff will raids directly which shopkeeper and nab the shopkeepers.
