ISLAMABAD: Directorate General Customs Intelligence and Investigation Karachi anti smuggling staff, in a historical sea operation against narcotics has caught and seized 100 kilograms of heroine, worth Rs 1 billion in international market.
Customs I&I has arrested 12 persons, seized the boat and FIR has been lodged against them. Director General Shaukat Ali lauded the action of Directorate and Anti smuggling staff.
According to the details, that in pursuance of credible information supplied by the Directorate General, Intelligence & Investigation-FBR, (Customs Anti-Smuggling), Regional Office Karachi, to the effect that a wooden boat under the guise of a cargo fishing boat would be used in a bid to smuggle huge quantity of high quality narcotics in the form of white heroin crystal through International Sea route. In pursuance of said information, the Maritime Security Agency officials in coordination with the staff of Directorate General Intelligence & Investigation-FBR, Karachi, barricaded and cordon all the coastal inlets along the coastal territories of Pakistan Customs Water.
During surveillance alongside the coast, the PMSA staff in the intervening night, intercepted a wooden boat dhow namely Al-Hadees bearing Registration No. BFD-14257, at Pakistan Customs Water near coastal area Karachi alongwith 12 crew persons on board, during search proceedings 100 packs of white narcotics psychotropic substances (suspected to be Heroin Crystals Methamphetamine) approximately weighing 100 kilograms were recovered from hidden compartment of the said boat. Subsequently, the intercepted boat along with recovered 100 packs of white narcotics psychotropic substances (suspected to be heroin crystals methamphetamine and 12 accused crew persons were escorted to HQs.
PMSA Jetty, Karachi, for further legal proceeding under the relevant provisions of the CNS Act, 1997. Accordingly, a team of officers staff of ASO, approached at HQs. Pakistan Maritime Security Agency, Karachi, where the PMSA staff handed over the recovered heroine, and 12 arrested accused persons alongwith Boat Al-Hadees to the staff of ASO for further legal proceedings as warranted under the relevant provisions of CNS Act, 1997.
