ISLAMABAD: Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Rawalpindi has seized 24,315 kilograms foreign origin non-duty paid smuggled dry fruit, including cashew, almond, pistachio and raisins worth Rs 10.426 million.
According to details, the anti-smuggling staff of the Directorate of Custom I&I Rawalpindi intercepted a Daewoo truck bearing registration no. TLK- 755 near Fateh Jang being driven by Muhammad Bukesh son of Jan Muhammad.
During the search of the vehicle in the presence of witnesses, the Customs I&I Staff found 3,980 kilograms cashew of Indian origin worth Rs 1.719 million, 7,620 kilograms almond without shell of US origin worth Rs. 1.645 million, 3090 kilogram roasted and salted pistachio of Iranian-origin worth Rs. 1.334 million, 5,730 kilograms of foreign origin raisins worth Rs. 0.618 million and chick peas worth Rs 85,320.
On demand of the anti smuggling staff, driver of the truck produced pohto copy of GDs bearing Nos.QDRY-HC-1197dt 27 October 2016, QDRY-HC-1502 dated 16 November 2016 and QDRY-HC-1235 dated 31 November 2016 along with bilties in respect of loaded foreign origin goods. The GDs were examined and it was found that bilties not mention the name and address of the consignee or purchaser of the goods. No other documents like voucher or invoice was produced.
As regard GDs there are no nexus between the import and purchaser or consignee of the goods in question. Hence the same were found irreverent and smuggled one, therefore the Customs I&I has been converted the detention into seizer goods and Daewoo trailer truck and under section 168 of Customs Act 1969, and notices under section 171 ibid is also sent at the given address of the driver.
The total CIF value of the seized dry fruit was Rs 6.439 million and total duty and taxes were evaded amounting Rs.3.986 million.
