Customs Intelligence recovers smuggled goods worth Rs 900,000 in second week of July

FAISALABAD: The Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation has seized smuggled items worth Rs 90,000  during the second week of July- 2016 involving duty and taxes amounting to Rs 465,552 in different anti-smuggling activities.

Sources told Customs Today that Customs Intelligence conducted various operations on the instruction of Additional Director Azmat Tahira against smuggled goods and vehicles in different areas of its jurisdiction.

Sources said that following information Deputy Director Muhammad Riaz Hussain, along with intelligence team comprising Senior Intelligence Officer Zahid Saleem Mirza, Intelligence Officer Mansoor Nasir and sepoys Sajjad Ahmed and Khalid Ahmed conducted raids in Faisalabad city.

Sources said that majority of accused failed to produce any legal documents regarding possession and transpotation of smuggled goods and vehicles.. Therefore, the customs officials seized the goods under the Import and Export Control Act 1950 punishable under Section 156(1)89 and 178 of Customs Act, 1969.
