ISLAMABAD: The Directorate General Customs Intelligence and investigation has seized smuggled miscellaneous goods, including vehicles and arms and ammunition worth Rs 1287 million during July to November of current fiscal year 2016-17.
It seized miscellaneous items, including diesel, foreign origin cloth, gutka, tea, cigarettes and electronics during the said period. The customs Intelligence in country wide operations against smuggling registered 509 cases and arrested 9 persons.
In separate operations against drugs trafficking, the department seized narcotics more than 2,800 kilogramme worth millions of rupees in international market.
Customs Intelligence Headquarters Additional Director Abdul Waheed Marwat told Customs Today that operations will be continued against the smugglers in full swing.
Till the end of November, the intelligence seized 203 non-duty paid cars worth Rs 510 million, while 165 vehicles worth Rs 196.4 million were impounded under section 157 as these were being used for smuggling.
It seized 290,815 yards foreign origin cloth worth Rs 45.54 million, 28,400Kg food grains worth Rs 2.931 million, arms and ammunition worth Rs 1.258 million, 57,495 cartons of cigarettes worth Rs 18.34 million, electronics worth Rs 53.24 million, 127,006Kg black tea worth Rs 54.95 million amd auto spare parts worth Rs 4.62 million.
It also confiscated toiletries worth Rs 11.97 million, gutka worth Rs 10.07 million, 1,566,180 liters of diesel worth Rs 72.31 million, 1909 tyres and tubes worth Rs 8.16 million, 85,280 liters of petrol worth Rs 3.795 million, 130 blankets worth Rs 275,000, pan prag and saffron worth Rs 200,000, 150 carpets worth Rs 225,000, 300 buckets of grease worth Rs 150,000, crockery sets worth Rs 170,000 and miscellaneous goods worth Rs 303.52 million. The department also seized 418kg charas, 10kg opium and 2400kg opium seeds in anti-drug trafficking raids.
