Customs Intelligence seizes items worth Rs 35.2m in 3 months

FAISALABAD: The Customs Intelligence and Investigation seized smuggled items worth Rs 35.267 million during first quarter (July-September) of the current fiscal year 2016-17.

The Customs Intelligence seized different smuggled goods, including imported HTV tyres, grocery items, garments, crockery LED, LCD, Toyota Land cruiser, and other miscellaneous goods from Faisalabad region during the said period. Around 14 seizure cases involving duty/taxes amounting to Rs 14.149 million were made.

The department made seven seizure cases worth Rs 6.87 million in July, four cases involving Rs 16.457 million in August, and three cases worth Rs 11.94 million in September. The items were seized from Sargodha, Khushab and Faisalabad.

Customs Intelligence Deputy Director Muhammad Riaz told Customs Today that the department seized a variety of articles, including smuggled vehicles and goods, adding that campaigns against smuggled goods are underway with a mission to curb smuggling in the region.
