ISLAMABAD: In the smuggling case against TCS and Smart Zone, the Directorate General of Customs Intelligence and Investigation has decided to write to regional tax offices to check record of traders and dealers who bought non-duty paid items from Smart Zone.

Customs intelligence sources said the officials had sent notices to the dealers for buying goods without sales tax invoice and certificate. Sources said 90 percent of the dealers have replied to the notices and a majority of them said they had returned the items to the Smart Zone.

However, customs officials doubted them as TCS had told the officials that none of the dealers had returned the items. Now the customs intelligence has decided to write letters to the RTOs on the basis of the said notices. The RTOs will be urged to check sale record and dealings of the traders and showrooms with Smart Zone and other companies. Those who said they had returned the items will be told to present concrete evidence in this regard. TCS has provided addresses of all such dealers and traders.
