LAHORE: The revenue collection under the heads of duty/taxes of the Pakistan Customs Land Freight Unit (LFU) Wagah will increase in coming days, as the import of Indian tomatoes has been resumed after three months, it is learnt here.
Earlier, Pakistan had stopped import of Indian tomatoes following the better crop in the country this season and decreasing demand in market as well. The import was also suspended, as the tomatoes were found unhygienic during examination by the Plant Protection Department.
Almost 40-50 trucks of tomatoes were imported in a day during December, 2015, which decreased to zero after suspending.
Talking to Customs Today, officials said that the customs has cleared almost 20 trucks of tomatoes during first four day of running month, April, adding that the import will pose positive impact on revenue collection in wake of duty/taxes.
They said that the local demand of tomatoes will increase in coming days as the holy month, Ramzan is coming ahead.
