BALIK PULAU: A Customs Department officer has been charged in a magistrate’s court here with two counts of cheating a man of RM5,300 over a Kawasaki Ninja 650R motorcycle sale three years ago.
Zulazri Atan, 37, from Sungai Petani, is alleged to have dishonestly induced Yusaini Yusoff, 43, to make a RM2,000 payment into his account at a cash deposit machine (CDM) at the bank’s branch in Bayan Baru at 10.28pm on May 10, 2013.
He faces a second charge of dishonestly inducing Yusaini to make a RM3,300 deposit into his account at a CDM of the same branch at 10.30am the same day.
Zulazri pleaded not guilty to both charges under Section 420 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of between one year and 10 years, whipping and a possible fine.
Magistrate Nur Azzuin Abdul Moati allowed Zulazri a total of RM6,000 bail in one surety and fixed July 15 to mention the case.
Zulazri was unrepresented while DPP Shafiq Mahadi appeared for the prosecution.
At press time, Zulazri had not posted bail.
