Customs authorities postpone briefing on recovery of narcotics

KARACHI: Pakistan Customs authorities postponed the press conference which was scheduled on Friday to elaborate the details of recovered 3.1 kilograms of narcotics being smuggled to Dubai through PIA flight.

On Wednesday, Model Customs Collectorate (MCC) Preventive staff deputed at the Jinnah International Airport Karachi, successfully foiled an attempt to smuggle 3.1 kilograms of narcotics.The drugs were being smuggled through a Dubai-bound flight of PIA, PK-211.

According to sources, Collector MCC Preventive S Tariq Huda was expected to brief the media about the recent performance of the customs authorities in foiling smuggling bids at the Karachi airport besides disclosing the names of groups behind the smuggling.

However on Friday, Qamar Thalo, the Media Officer Customs announced that the press conference was postponed due to ‘unavoidable circumstances’. In this regard, no fresh date was mentioned.

It may be recalled that Customs authorities with the help of sniff dogs frisked the plane and found 3.1 kilograms of narcotics hidden in secret cavities in bathroom from flight PK-211 that was flying from Islamabad to Dubai. On information flight had to land at the Karachi airport for thorough search.
