Customs Preventive foils 7 bids to smuggle gold in 2014-16

LAHORE: Customs Preventive registered seven cases of gold smuggling foiling the bids during October 2014 to April 2016.  Official data disclosed that customs airport authorities foiled bid to smuggle gold to Dubai from Lahore. The gold was being smuggled by Irfan Tariq while the total value of the gold was determined at Rs 12.50 million34. The case was registered on October 1, 2014.

Second case of gold was registered on March 25, 2015 against Abid Butt and Fakahir Mehmood while the value of the seized gold was determined at Rs16 million.

Third case was registered on May 5, 2015 against accused Rana Rafi Farooq. He was arrested while attempting to smuggle gold worth Rs 15 million.

The data said that fourth case was registered against accused M Aslam he attempted to smuggle Rs 39 million gold from Lahore airport.

Fifth case was registered against Abdul Basit and Tufeeq Butt who attempted to smuggle Rs 93 million gold and currency to Dubai.

Sixth case was registered against accused Rai Muhammad Umar for smuggling Rs 5 million gold while seventh case was registered against accused Muhammad Rizwan as he attempted to smuggle Rs 27 million gold to abroad.
