Customs Preventive foils smuggling bid via postal mail worth Rs 6.3 million

KARACHI: Customs Collectorate Preventive has foiled a bid to smuggle drugs and valuable goods in postal mail through Thai Airline at Jinnah International Airport Karachi.

According to details, in pursuance of information received by DCP Jinnah International Airport to the effect that an attempt would be made to smuggle drugs and valuables in the postal mail through Thai Airline arriving from Bangkok. Hence, a team of officers and staff of Rummaging and Patrolling was deployed at the airport to foil the attempt.

Accordingly on 24.12.2015 Rummaging and Patrolling staff of Customs kept an strict surveillance on the postal mail arriving from Thai Airline and finally succeeded to intercept 4 bags arrived from Thai Airline flight No.TG-507 which were found to contain silver jewellery and semi precious stones.

On examination carried out with the help of an expert of gems and jewellery 3 bags were found to contain silver jewellery weighing 55 kgs net while 1 bag contained  semi precious stones weighing 15 kilograms net both valuing Rs 63,00,000/- (6.3 millions). The goods so recovered have been seized and an FIR has been lodged in the court of law. Further investigations are in progress.
