LAHORE: Collectorate of Customs Preventive showed outstanding performance during first six months (July to December) Fiscal Year 2019-20.
The performance of Customs Collectorate of Preventive remained commendable. The Collectorate during this period, in light of Chief Collector (Enforcement) Zeba Hai Azhar, and supervision of Collector Ahmad Rauf made 115 seizure of smuggled goods worth Rs668 million which is 24 percent higher than the corresponding period of the previous financial year.
During this period, betel nuts, tiles, tyres, fabric and other goods were seized by the Anti-Smuggling Organization of the Collectorate. The Collectorate also succeeded in seizing 36 smuggled non-duty paid vehicles as well.
The Collectorate also generated revenue through regular auction of confiscated goods. During July-December, 2019-20, the auction section of the Collectorate realized revenue of Rs138 million, exceeding the target of Rs90 million assigned by the Federal Board of Revenue.
This performance is exceptional in comparison of Rs44 million revenue realization in the same period of last financial year i.e. 2018-19, reflecting an increase of 213.6 percent.
In addition to the performance in the aforementioned areas, the Collectorate handled 3758 trucks of Afghan Transit through Wagha in the first six months of the current financial year in comparison of 2124 trucks in the same period of precious financial year. This is an increase of 77 percent, which was achieved due to swift and efficient clearance of cargo trucks which also helped in reduction f traffic jams and congestion on the roads leading to Wagha border.
However, due to suspension of trade with India with effect from 9.8.2019, only 269 trucks could be cleared in the current financial year.
