ISLAMABAD: In pursuance of directions of FBR Chairman Nisar Mohammad Khan and Member Customs Nasir Masroor regarding prevention of smuggling, the anti-smuggling staff, on information received through Collector Customs Islamabad Dr Arslan Sabughtageen, in a joint operation with Chakwal and Motorway Police near Balkasar, intercepted two a 40-feet container coming from Peshawar.
The driver tried to escape and persons who were on the truck fired into the air but the customs anti smuggling staff arrest them with the help of the police. The persons accompanying the vehicles failed to produce any import documents of the goods.
The team recovered foreign origin goods, including LEDs TVs 339, air-conditioners no 179, silk cotton 1000 kilograms, auto parts 3960 kilograms, cigarrette 4000 dandas, 200 cigarrette in each, bicycle parts 3575 kgs, welding rods 1600 kilograms, indoor units of AC 58 no, out door units of AC 44 no and 1100 kgs polyester cloth worth Rs 70 million.
The goods have been seized under the Customs Act,1969 and four persons have been arrested. An FIR has also been lodged against the accused persons. Further investigations are underway.
