KARACHI: The Collectorate of Customs at Jinnah International Airport (JIAP) seized 12 kilograms of hashish worth Rs360 million from two parcels that had arrived from Thailand.
The seizure was made on July 4, 2026, during routine scanning operations conducted at the International Mail Office, Karachi. Two parcels originating from Thailand were intercepted after customs officials identified suspicious indicators during the screening process.
Acting on the suspicion, Preventive Officer Mr. Zahid Hussain carried out a comprehensive physical examination of the consignments. The parcels, booked from Bangkok, Thailand, had been declared as containing plastic car toys, Lego sets, model kit paper, and wooden rocks.
A detailed inspection, however, revealed that the parcels had been ingeniously used to conceal 12 kilograms of marijuana, hidden inside plastic toy boxes. The contraband was recovered in two consignments weighing 7 kilograms and 5 kilograms, respectively.
The seized narcotics have an estimated market value of approximately Rs. 366.2 million. Following the seizure, the recovered drugs were immediately transferred to the Directorate of Enforcement & Compliance (Headquarters), Karachi, for further legal proceedings.
A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered, and investigations are underway to identify all individuals and networks involved in the attempted smuggling operation.
A spokesman of Pakistan Customs said that the hashish was tactfully hidden in the secret parts of plastic toys.
Pakistan Customs intercepted the suspicious parcel during the routine scanning of goods. Pakistan Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&I), after seizing the hashish, started a search for the identification of the network involved in the smuggling of narcotics.
