Customs Tribuanl Chairman Ghulam Murtaza hears 22 cases on first day after assuming charge

ISLAMABAD: Starting hearing cases at the Pakistan Customs Appellate Tribunal (CAT) headquarter, newly appointed Chairman, Ghulam Murtaza Bhatti on Wednesday heard over a dozen cases relating to smuggling, import of notified goods and evasion of duty.

Chairman chaired a two-member division bench in the 12 cases. Member Technical, Khalid Mehmood accompanied the chairman. However, the chairman also heard 10 cases as single bench.

In first hearing, case of National Institute of Health Islamabad and expanded program of immunization (EPI) was adjourned to September 15, while case related to ex-chief executive TCS was adjourned till October 6.

Another case related to currency smuggling was dismissed on the basis of non-prosecution.

The chairman did not give finale verdict about any case and hearings of most cases were adjourned owing to lacking documents and absence of relevant representative.
