Dar chairs meeting to review arrangements of population census

ISLAMABAD: Federal Finance Minister, Ishaq Dar chaired a meeting to review arrangements for the planned Housing and Population Census-2016.

The Chief Statistician, Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) Mr. Asif Bajwa gave the meeting an update on the arrangements undertaken so far by the Bureau and the level of preparedness of other related government bodies.

The Minister directed the PBS to chalk out a revised Action Plan for holding the Census, incorporating the changes discussed in the meeting, in consultation with other stakeholders.

The Minister also gave instructions that the updated Plan be prepared by the evening of Sunday, 28th February 2016 so as to share it with the members of the Council of Common Interest for consideration in its upcoming meeting. He said it was resolve and endeavour of the government to hold the census in a befitting manner while ensuring it’s credibility and transparency, and all efforts would be made to achieve this objective.

Secretary Statistics Division, Mr. Shahid Hussain Asad, senior officials of the Ministry of Finance and the PBS attended the meeting.
