Dar chairs meeting to review financial matters of PIA

ISLAMABAD: Federal Finance Minister, Ishaq Dar chaired a meeting at the Ministry of Finance to review financial matters of Pakistan International Airlines.

Secretary Aviation Division, Muhammad Irfan Elahi updated the meeting about comparative analysis of PIA’s performance in the fiscal years 2013-14 and 2014-15. He gave a review of PIA’s performance in the last nine months of the CFY15-16 and also informed the meeting about the immediate financial requirements of the airline.

He said as desired concerted efforts are being made to minimize operational losses of the airline, yet to improve the service delivery and overall working of the airline, financial assistance from the government was necessary.

The Minister while emphasizing efforts by the PIA administration for improving service delivery and reduction of operational losses said that strict financial discipline along with quality management were much desired to attain passenger and cargo service quality in accordance with international standards. He said the government fully supports efforts aimed at improvement in PIA’s services but also expected the PIA management as well as employees to contribute their best to revive the airline to the level of its past glory.

The meeting also discussed the PIA corporatization bill, which is to be tabled before the parliament in its joint sitting.

Senior officials of the Ministry of Finance and Aviation Division attended the meeting.
