DC Asma issues show cause to vehicle smuggler

FAISALABAD: Customs Adjudication Deputy Collector Asma Hameed has issued a show cause notice to a suspect involved in smuggled Toyota Passo car worth Rs 1.087 million involving customs duty and taxes amounting to Rs 537,000.

As per details, the Anti-Smuggling Organisation (ASO), Mianwali, which falls in the jurisdiction of Faisalabad Customs, impounded a non-duty paid Toyota Passo car bearing Registration No LEA- 2650. The particulars of the vehicle have been checked from the website displayed by the Punjab government and found not tallied. Therefore, the vehicle was brought to the office of the superintendent.

The customs officials took the vehicle into custody under Section 168 of the Customs Act 1969. On the other hand, ASO authorities forwarded contravention report to Customs Adjudication for further legal proceedings.

The Customs Adjudication issued notice to the person on the violation of Section 10-A 89(1) and 156 of the Customs Act, 1969. However the adjudication has directed the respondents to file their replies by given time which is also last date of hearing.

Deputy collector served notice to the accused party through Mianwali ASO. Deputy Collector Asma Hameed also directed the ASO to depute any relevant official to attend the hearing on the schedule date along with relevant record.
