LAHORE: The sudden death of the driver of Customs Central Region Chief Collector Rozi Khan Burki has taken a controversial turn as the FRA Customs Employees Union has termed the demise a murder while police say it is an accident.
Earlier on Sunday, Chief Collector Rozi Khan Burki’s driver Khizar Hayat, 50, was found fainted near Garhi Shahu Underpass with serious head injuries.
According to customs officials, Khizar was heading toward his home after dropping the chief collector at his home on his bike in Allama Iqbal Town when he was reported to his family falling unconscious near the underpass.
It was said that he was afterwards rushed to a nearby hospital but he succumbed to his injuries.
FRA Customs Employees Union President Ameer Haider told Customs Today that there is sufficient reason behind Kihzar Hayat’s murder, as he had a dispute with his neighbour over some property issue and he attained a stay order from the court in this regard.
He said that the police have a tendency to declare the driver’s death a road accident to close the file.
Haider added that police should abstain from considering the death as an accident and that the customs union would fight to the end for getting justice in this regard.
Police Investigation Officer Rana Shahid, on the other hand, told Customs Today that it would be too early to say something before the autopsy, however, initial investigations suggested that it was an accident. His Lahore Customs House colleagues said that Kizar was an honest and dedicated employee of the customs service and he was popular among all and sundry.
