Deputy Collector Asma issues notice to owner of seized cloth

FAISALABAD: The Customs Adjudication Deputy Collector Asma Hameed has issued a show cause notice to accused person who is allegedly involved in smuggling of sofa cloth which was also impounded by the customs ASO Sargodha.

According to the details, during checking of the vehicle, Anti Smuggling Organization team intercepted a suspicious bus and recovered sofa cloth from the vehicle.

The team asked the owners of the cloth who introduced himself as Arif ullah to show documents regarding legal import of the cloth but they could not produce the same.

Therefore, the officials impounded the smuggled cloth under customs laws and forwarded case to Customs Adjudication for further legal action.

Now, Deputy Collector Asma Hameed issued notice to the accused person on the violation of Section 10-A. 89(1) and 156(1) of the Customs Act, 1969 punishable under Section 156 (1) 89 of the Custom Act, 1969 and called them to show cause as to why the said items should not be confiscated under aforementioned provisions of the law.

However, the adjudication has directed the suspect to file reply on next date of hearing. The seizing agency has also been directed to file reply in the respective case.

Hearing date of in this case has been fixed 27-08-2017 while the respondent may appear in person or through his accredited representative before the Adjudication department.

The adjudication authority also directed Customs ASO Deputy collector Muhammad Usman Tariq to attend the hearing on schedule date along with relevant record.
