Customs court puts off hearing of two accused in mobile smuggling case

LAHORE: The Special Federal Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling has extended a case hearing of two accused in mobile smuggling case till August 27.

Earlier, their post-arrest bail plea was approved by former Customs Judge Shakeel Ahmad.

According to details, accused Abdul Waheed and Agha Wali were apprehended by the customs intelligence authorities from The Mall of Lahore. Last week, customs court approved their post-arrest bail plea and ordered their release. The bail pleas of the accused were approved by Customs Judge Shakeel Ahmad against a cash guarantee of Rs500000 each.

Earlier, the customs intelligence and investigation team had presented them before the customs court for getting their physical remand to investigate more on the issue.

Both accused Agha Wali and Abdul Waheed were supplying these mobile phones to some traders of Hall Road.

They were arrested when customs intelligence team intercepted them on The Mall and recovered 324 mobile phones. The financial worth of the recovered mobile phones is more than Rs6million in the local market.

The customs investigation team had also presented them before the court of special judge of customs taxation and anti-smuggling Shakeel Ahmad and asked for their physical remand for three days.

The customs authorities had registered a case against them under Pakistan Customs Act-1969.
