Deputy Collector Hassan Farid orders to release imported 12 LEDs after payment of redemption fee, duty, tax

LAHORE: Deputy Collector Customs Adjudication Mohammad Hassan Farid has issued a Order-in-Original (ONO) No. 212/2017 declaring the seizure of non duty paid LEDs as legal, but ordered to release goods after payment of 20 percent redemption fee, tax and duty.

Sources told Customs Today Superintendent Anti Smuggling Organization vide Contravention Report No. 183/20/2017 dated 13.7.2018 are that on 13.7.2017, the staff of ASO intercepted a Suzuki Pickup bearing registration no: LHC-8927 near Regal Chowk, Lahore which was loaded with foreign origin LEDs. On query the person on driving seat introduced himself Muhammad Saleem son of Muhammad Iqbal as driver of the pickup another person sitting beside the driver identified himself as Abdullah son of Haji Khial  Zada claimed the ownership of the loaded 12 LEDs.

On demand, the above driver owner or any other person could not produce any documentary evidence or otherwise, in support of lawful possession of the above mentioned recovered LEDs. ASO team seized the LEDs and forwarded the case to Customs Adjudication.

During the course of hearing on 17.7.2017 Muhammad Saleem driver of the vehicle appeared and stated that he booked the vehicle on nominal fare and he was totally unaware about the smuggled LEDs. The owner said that he is ready to pay duty and taxes on the LED’s along with fine penalty if any. While a representative from ASO appeared and said that LEDs were seized according to law. After hearing the arguments the Deputy Collector Adjudication Mohammad Hassan Farid directed Customs Anti Smuggling Organization to release the goods after payment of 20 per cent redemption fee plus leviable duty and taxes.
