Dera Ghazi Khan Customs seizs Rs167mn smuggled goods, vehicles in last 18 months‏

MULTAN: Director Customs Intelligence and Investigation Saud Imran visited Dera Ghazi Khan region office to evaluate the performance of Customs  in the Dera Ghazi Khan region.

Director Customs Intelligence and Investigation has presided the meeting in the Customs office Dera Ghazi in which other staff members of Customs were also participated.  Additional Director Nisar Ahmad briefed  Director Saud Imran about the performance of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Dera Ghazi Khan region by presenting comparative report of one and half year . Additional Director Customs Intelligence and Investigation  told Director that Dera Ghazi region had seized  worth Rs.167.46 million from the jurisdiction of Dera Ghazi Khan region after assuming his charge of Customs .

Almost RS. 90 million of smuggled vehicles and articles were captured during the time period  July to December  monetory year 2013-14. Additional Director informed that only 34 vehicles seized in the fiscal year 2013-14 and only 52 were constituted during various anti –smuggling opeartions against smuggled goods and vehicles in that period.

There were only 26 seizure cases of worth Rs 31 million from July to March economic year 2013 to 2014. After the reinforcement of Customs Field Intelligence Unit Dera Ghazi Khan Customs  have blocked the major supply of smugglers for smuggling and we have developed a fine survillance system in the region to curb menace of smuggling from region with cooperation of Border Military Police.

Customs had formed 77 in the last eighteen months in the region of Dera Ghazi Khan by adopting new strategy against smugglers and we are dealing smugglers with iron handed in order to restrain  smuggling. Smugglers are adopting innovations in their smuggling of goods and we are making our all efforts to strike them .

Director Saud Imran have also visited strategic routes of the Dera Ghazi Khan region and discuss the strategy agaisnt smuggler for enhancement. He told that field intelligence unit of Dera Ghazi Khan should remain alert that smugglers would be curtailed in the region because major goods coming from cross border smuggling are transported through these routes .

He expressed that Customs is playing vital role in the economy because local manufacturers are happy by taking strict measures against smugglers in the region and we are also serving our economy by contributing by local market through enforcement against smuggling in the region.
