DG Internal Audit-Customs decides to initiate audit of cleared steel consignments

KARACHI: The Directorate General of Internal Audit-Customs decided to initiate audit into the post released clearance consignments of steel consignments from all three field formation Collectorates i.e. Appraisement East, Appraisement West and Port Muhammad Bin Qasim, it is learnt here.

The sources informed Customs Today that the Director General of the Directorate General of Internal Audit-Customs Dr Agha Owais Jawwad was recently held a meeting of the authorities concerned of the department in which he directed the officers to threat out all clearance data of steel consignments from all three field formation Collectorate for last three years.

The sources further said that the Director General of Internal Audit-Customs Dr Agha Owais Jawwad had some information that huge revenue loss has been reported in clearance of steel consignments during the last three to four years.

In this regard, the Director General of Internal Audit-Customs has written a letter to the authorities concerned of FBR seeking permission of internal audit of cleared steel consignments from Appraisement West, Appraisement East and Port Muhammad Bin Qasim.

The sources further informed that the authorities concerned of Directorate General of Internal Audit-Customs would send letters to the authorities concerned of PRAL in order to provide all clearance details regarding steel consignments to the department.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Internal Audit-Customs has performed tremendous work in order to threat out the audit paras and also sent to the respective collectorates for raising revenue recoveries, although the authorities concerned  of those field formation Collectorates have not yet done any effective measures in this regard.
