LAHORE: The Directorate General of Training & Research (Customs), Regional Office, Lahore conducted more than 50 training workshops during the calendar year 2019.
According to details, the Regional Office, Lahore arranged more than 50 training workshops for the officers and officials of the customs department along with business community of Lahore, Sialkot, Faisalabad and Multan Regions.
More than 1000 customs officers and officials from BPS 7 to 19 participated in Mandatory Capacity Building Training, Special Academic Training, On Job Training, Performance Evaluation System, PEPERA Rules and Procedures, Intellectual Property Rights, Computer Skills, Search, Seizure and Arrest, Anti- Smuggling Concept and Apparatus, Export Regimes, Strategic Trade Control and Plan for 2019-20 Enforcement, Impact of CPEC on Pakistan Economy, Orientation to WeBOC Glo, Important Changes in Budget 2019-20, Investigation in Criminal Law and Tax Matters, Commodity Identification Training by Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Introduction of Authorised Economic Operators Programs and MRA in Pakistan, Budget Proposals in Finance Act, Broad Countours of Customs Policy, Rationale behind International Trade and FTAs, Risk Management and Mandatory Customs Clearing Agents Course.
The highlights of the said training sessions are as under
- The trainings on “WeBOC Glo” were conducted in collaboration with PRAL at MCC Sialkot, MCC Appraisement, Faisalabad and Appraisement, Lahore which proved to be very useful as new ideas and changes in the WeBOC system were discussed and communicated to the custom staff as well as business community dealing with this system.
- Two days training workshop on “Commodity Identification Training” was conducted for Pakistan Customs and other related Law Enforcement Agencies in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Islamabad wherein staff from customs, Pakistan Rangers, department of Plant Protection and Department of Animal Quarantine participated and learnt new techniques of identifying precursors and hazardous material.
- A special training course on “WeBOC Registration and Introduction” in collaboration with SMEDA was also conducted at the premises of Lahore, Faisalabad, Sialkot and Gujranwala Chambers of Commerce for raising awareness in business community.
A special course titled “Anti Money Laundering / Combating the Finance of Terrorism / Investigation in Currency Seizure Cases” was also held at DGTR (Customs), Lahore and Abdul Waheed Marwat, Director, Directorate of Cross Border Currency Movement, Islamabad who is the expert on the topic was engaged as resource person for the said session.
v). A special training program on “Introduction of Authorised Economic Operator Program and MRA in Pakistan” was also organized at DGTR (Customs), Lahore. vi) A large scale workshop titled “Pakistan Customs Strategical Plan for 2019-2020” was conducted in collaboration with Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Lahore for study of Customs Strategic Plan for the next 5 years. It was attended by a considerable number of officers serving in central region.
The above said courses were successfully completed with the help of skilled officials of DGTR (Customs), course coordinator and resource persons who were experts of their fields. DGTR (Customs), Lahore has successfully collaborated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Islamabad, Chamber of Commerce and Industries Lahore, Customs Clearing Agents Association Lahore, SMEDA and regional collectorates. Courses were also held at Lahore Chamber of Commerce, Customs Dry Port, Faisalabad, Lahore and Sambrial (Sialkot) and at respective Chambers of Commerce.
The Director, DGTR (Customs) Saima Aftab stated that these courses were greatly helpful for building a better working environment within Customs and enhancement of performance of Customs officials. These courses also served to build a productive collaboration with business community and other stake holders.
