DG Imtiaz Ahmad to appoint focal persons to resolve issues of transporters

ISLAMABAD: After the directions of FBR Chairman Nisar Mohammad, a delegation of Goods Transport Alliance held a meeting with Director General Intelligence and Investigations Imtiaz Ahmad Khan and apprised him of their problems.

Sources informed Customs Today that during the meeting, which was held at the FBR headquarters, the transporters put up various proposals to solve their problems. A transporter proposed that if customs intelligence team finds some objectionable goods in a trucks they should allow the vehicle to reach its destination. He further said that goods should not be handed over to its owner till the owner provides complete legal documents regarding possession and transporting of goods.

Director Imtiaz Ahmad after listeing this proposal assured the delegation that he will thoroughly examined this proposal and after consulting with high ups will apply it, may be with amendments. Director General Customs Intelligence take seriously notice of unnecessarily harassment by customs teams who are deployed at various check posts. He assurmed the transporters that he will personally pay surprized vists to Quetta, Sukkur, Hyderabad, Multan, Faisalabad and Lahore and will appoint focal persons who will personally examine all the complaints of transporters and will solve these complaints on the spot.

He also warned that any official or staff member who found involved in illegal pratice will have to face strict disciplinary action. After the meeting general secreary of Transporters Alliance Shoaib Khan expressed his satisfaction over outsome of the meeting. He said we are optimistic that our grievances wil be addressed according to promises.
