Director Sadiqullah Khan’s Hyderabad I&I seizes smuggled goods worth Rs271.497m

HYDERABAD: After directions from Director-General Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&) Abdul Rasheed Shaikh to kept extra vigilance on the movement of contraband/smuggled goods through various routes. Director of Customs Intelligence Dr. Sadiqullah Khan further instructed Additional Director Jamshed Ali Talpur, Deputy Director Syed Muhammad Raza Naqvi to keep extra vigilance on the smuggling of contraband goods.

Consequently, during the current month, an information received through reliable source that huge quantity of Afghan transit goods would be transported from Karachi to Rawalpindi under the garb of imported goods loaded on Nissan truck/trailer bearing Registration No.E-6449 mounted with 40` Container.

Pursuance the information the team of ASO Hyderabad intercepted the subject vehicle at National Highway near Hatri Bypass Hyderabad. On cursory checking, the cartons of Afghan transit were found on the subject trailer/container in the garb of other goods which were transported imported GDs and transportation bilties.

Since the information was authentic, therefore, the trailer along with loaded goods were taken over by the above team and escorted to the premises of this Directorate. Thorough search/examination was carried out which resulted into recovery of 993 Cartons of Afgan Transit Goods i.e. confectionary/general Items and 660 cartons of other goods. Market value of the seized goods is Rs13.85 million and that of the vehicle is Rs5 million, respectively.

The driver of the trailer has been arrested and FIR has been lodged accordingly.

However, the Directorate of Customs Intelligence & Investigation Hyderabad has performed exceptionally well during the last three month with 40 percent growth over the corresponding period of last year.

A total of 35 seizures have been made from September, 2020 till 20th November, 2020 worth Rs271.497 million as against Rs193.157 during last corresponding period, while 4 seizures are pending for verification that have to finalized.

The following major items seized from September, 2020 till 20th November, 2020:-

  • 51,268 packets worth Rs102.536 million.
  • 14 numbers of conveyance vehicle u/s 157(2) worth Rs47.989 million.
  • 83,540 kilograms betel nuts, worth Rs125.310 million.
  • 8 NDP/tampered vehicles worth Rs28.896 million.

(three vehicles are pending for verification)

  • 13,356 dandas of foreign origin cigarettes worth Rs16.027 Million.

Moreover, during the period from 16.11.2020 to 20.11.2020 the Directorate has also growth with 5,488% over the last corresponding period.

In the light of overall performance of this Regional Directorate, The Director appreciated the efforts of ASO Wings of the Directorate who are working tirelessly day & night.
