All the 1,200 employees of Karachi Port Trust were served show cause notices and were declared not fit for the jobs. The employees were made permanent during 2012.

Sources informed Customs Today that the 1,200 employees were made permanent during the tenure of former ports and shipping minister Babur Ghori.

The KPT, in dismissal notices, stated that none of the employees were interviewed and even their medical tests were not conducted. The entire employees were recruited without any advisement for the different jobs and not even a request had been sent to the prime minister for approval.

The Sindh High Court, accepting the plea of the employees, fixed May 6, 2016 as the date of hearing.
