Dubai Customs launches integrated action plan to implement 4th Generation of Government Excellence System

DUBAI: Dubai Customs has taken great strides to put the 4th Generation of the Government Excellence System into implementation. Awareness workshops for all divisions and customs centres were conducted, as the preliminary and most important phase for implementation. A timetable was set by the Corporate Excellence Section at Dubai Customs to ensure Dubai Customs makes an exceptional participation in the next DGEP edition, with applications submitted to 25 categories that have been adjusted to fit in with the new system.

Moreover, Dubai Customs hosted a discussion forum, with the slogan “Stars of Excellence”, where previous winners of the DGEP passed on their experiences to future candidates and the people of DC at large.

A two-day seminar was held at Marriott Hotel – Dubai for departments and sections heads and DGEP teams to determine the gaps between the requirements of the new system and what has been achieved so far. The gap analysis sent by criteria officers was reviewed and the criteria merged based on the main axis of the 4th Generation of the Government Excellence System. Regular meetings with stakeholders were held to discuss the gaps analysis.

Dubai Customs, in cooperation with the Dubai Government Excellence Program (DGEP), organized at its headquarters a workshop on the implementation mechanism of the 4th Generation of the Government Excellence System. Workshop participants were presented with a brief on the newly-amended DGEP categories that have been adjusted to fit in with the 4th Generation of the Government Excellence System. The workshop highlighted in practical steps how the new system should be implemented and the role everyone should play in this area.

The Chairman and CEO of DP World and Chairman of Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, said, “Following the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, towards the implementation of the 4th Generation of the Government Excellence System, Dubai Customs has put forth an integrated action plan to ensure optimal implementation of the system axis.

“The 4th Generation of the Government Excellence System, which is a result-oriented system, is designed to upgrade the government performance through unified government initiatives and programs that will ensure better efficiency of resources, by eliminating repetition and duplicity of work.”

Bin Sulayem stressed that Ports, Customs & Free Zone Corporation is ready to implement the new excellence system, which  aims at upgrading the government work on an innovative basis and standards based on the excellence in government services in three main areas: achievement of the vision, innovation and enablers to achieve the highest satisfaction rates.

The Director of Dubai Customs Ahmed Mahboob Musabih stressed that soon after His Highness Sheikh Mohammed announced the 4th Generation of Government Excellence System, Dubai Customs started taking necessary steps for the implementation of the system, which takes into consideration the differences and the specifications of each government entity work and focuses on the results achieved by each entity based on the tasks entrusted to it and its role in achieving the Dubai Plan 2021.

The Director of Dubai Customs said that the implementation of the system will enable government entities to achieve the welfare and happiness of people, keeping pace with the trend in the UAE to deliver top notch government services that give the UAE its competitive edge.
