DUBAI: As part of its efforts to boost tourism and travel inflow, in line with Dubai Summer Surprises (DSS) 2015, Dubai Customs takes the responsibility to welcome Dubai’s visitors and holidaymakers in a very festive ambience, matching the good spirits of the eventful summer season.

This year’s DSS aims to further enhance the emirate’s internationally renowned image as a top summer destination for family tourism and entertainment with a myriad of activities specially designed to cheer up the kids.

In fulfilment of the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to provide Dubai’s visitors with the highest levels of care and attention; Dubai Customs’ Passenger Operations Department continues to offer a one-of-a kind welcome to tourists and vacationers coming to Dubai to enjoy the spirits of Dubai Summer Surprises.

The first of these jolly surprises is made to them at Customs counters in Dubai International Airport and Al Maktoum Airport terminals. As soon as passengers arrive there, Customs inspectors would present their children with the widely-admired mascot “Modhesh”, which is now an international icon for entertainment and celebration of childhood in DSS.

“Supporting sustainable economic development in all business sectors within the UAE, in general, and Dubai, in particular, tops our priorities,” said His Excellency Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Chairman of DP World, and Chairman of Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation (PCFC). “Therefore, we are very keen to ensure that economic growth is equally boosted in more other sectors alongside foreign trade, ports, and logistics, especially tourism industry which assumes great importance in the economic development strategies of both UAE Vision 2021 and Dubai Plan 2021.”

Bin Sulayem further noted, “The increasing success achieved by Dubai’s tourism and travel industry motivates us to level up our services at PCFC to meet the needs and requirements of the future growth promised for this dynamic sector. The PCFC strongly backs the Government of Dubai to increase travel and tourism influx by promoting marine tourism. We have established a number of cruise terminals at DP World’s Port Rashid, the latest of which was Hamdan bin Mohammed Cruise Terminal that helped increase the total capacity of Dubai’s three cruise terminals by 5 million tourists, adding up to 7 million tourists per year.”
