Enforcement-South to discuss oil smuggling with OMCs today

KARACHI: The Enforcement Collectorate (South) will hold a meeting of the Oil Marketing Companies (OMC) at the Custom House on Tuesday (today) at 11.00am in order to discuss the issues pertaining to oil marketing and its smuggling.

The sources informed Customs Today that the authorities concerned of Pakistan Customs in order to get the status of the oil marketing companies decided to arrange a meeting with the authorities of OMCs.

The Chief Collector-Enforcement (South) Muhammad Nazim Saleem will chair the meeting while the Collector-MCC Preventive Syed Muhammad Tariq Huda, Collector-MCC Gwadar Syed Muhammad Tanvir Ahmed, Collector MCC-Hyderabad Dr Wasif Memon, Collector-MCC Quetta and other officers would attend the meeting. The sources further informed this scribe that the authorities concerned of Pakistan Customs will assess the performance and arrangements made by the Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) in curbing smuggling of petrol/diesel in South region.

The sources further revealed that the agenda of the meeting would also include the issues pertaining to the Byco Petroleum Company.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Pakistan Customs authorities have already asked the Oil Marketing Companies (OMC) to produce the list of the authorized oil marketing companies before the authorities concerned after conducting a massive crackdown against the oil/petroleum smugglers, last year in which the Pakistan Customs with the assistance of law enforcing agencies (LEAs) had dismantled more than 50 illegal petrol pumps established in the vicinity of the city.
