Excise issues final notices to token tax defaulters in Gujranwala

SIALKOT: The Excise and Taxation Punjab has issued final recovery notices to government departments and private organisations to pay the token tax of their vehicles.

A senior official informed Customs Today that almost 1,500 vehicles of different government departments and private organisations were defaulter of token tax for the last several years in the division.

He added that the department had issued recovery notices to the owners of defaulter vehicles many times but the liable amount was not paid by them. The outstanding arrears have now swelled to millions of rupees, he said.

As per the details, token tax of as many as 700 different vehicles out of 1,500 vehicles has not been paid for the last five years. Officials said that 35 vehicles of Punjab Police, two vehicles of PTCL and 15 vehicles of Gepco (Wapda) are token tax defaulters.

On the other hand, owners of 423 vehicles that had been given under the Yellow Cabs Scheme of the Punjab government have paid liable taxes, officials informed.
