KARACHI: Rice exporters have alleged that the Quality Review Committee (QRC) has become ineffective under the control of Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) saying that it has resulted in decline of basmati rice exports.

Exporters said that if its control is given back to Rice Exporters Association of Pakistan (REAP) a fair sampling by QRC would guarantee quality supplies of rice hence increasing the fame of Pakistani rice all over the world.

Ever since TDAP has taken charge of QRC, it has created limitations for exporters and damage to Basmati exports due to absence of quality checking instruments for the last couple of years, they added.

Exporter further said that when QRC was controlled by REAP it was known to be a very effective and useful committee but now it has become dysfunctional.
