Faisalabad Adjudication issues OnO in favour of customs

FAISALABAD: Deputy Collector Adjudication Asma Hameed has issued Order-in-Original (OnO) in favour of the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Faisalabad authorities.

Sources told Customs Today that the customs team intercepted a bus bearing registration No. I.R-1163 and recovered 400 kilograms of foreign origin smuggled cloth from it. The bus driver, Sayed Talal Hussain Shah, informed the intelligence staff that two people namely Muhammad Younas and Abdul Ghaffar were the owners of the cloth.

The Customs team seized the cloth and forwarded the case to the customs adjudication, who issued a notice to the respondents.

During proceedings, respondents showed their willingness to pay duties and taxes on the seized cloth. The CIF value by seizing agency is less than the bench mark of Rs 150,000.

However, an option is given under SRO 499(1)/2009 to redeem the cloth in lieu of confiscation on payments of duty and taxes plus a redemption fine of 20 percent of the custom value to be appraised by Customs Faisalabad under relevant customs law and rules.
