FAISALABAD: The Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) has seized smuggled cloth worth Rs 331,660 involving duty and taxes amounting to Rs 167,223.
Collector Dr Zulfiqar Chaudhary received information regarding smuggling of foreign origin cloth on which he formed a team comprising Deputy Collector Rizwan Khan, Superintendent Saeed Akhtar Joiya, Inspectors Khalid Ashraf Noor, Mehmood Ahmed Dogar, Sepoys Ali Zahid and Muhammad Khalid Dogar, Afzal Hussain, Muhammad Naeem, Muhammad Ashraf and Liaqat Ali to foil the bid.
The ASO team raided a truck stand near Lal Mill Road, Faisalabad and recovered cloth from the office of Khawar Goods. On the demand, Younas, the owner, could not produce documents regarding legal import of the items.
Furthermore, recovery memo was prepared in the presence of the accused persons namely as Sher Muhammad, Yasin Islam, Haji Afzal and cloth was seized under Section 168 of the Customs Act, 1969 and registered a case against accused persons. The case has been sent to the Customs Adjudication for further legal action.
