FAISALABAD: The Model Custom Collectorate’s Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) foiled almost 11 smuggling attempts and confiscated contraband items including vehicles worth Rs 23.65 million during October 2015.
Talking to Customs Today, Collector Dr. Zulafqar Ali Choudhary hailed the performance of the ASO, adding that the collectorate was improving its performance by adopting effective strategies against the menace of smuggling.
Collector Choudhary said that his collectorate will not leave a stone unturned to achieve the assigned target for the current fiscal year 2015-16. He said that smuggling will not be tolerated at all and instructions in this regard have been issued to all officers and officials.
As per details, the ASO impounded four non-duty paid vehicles worth Rs 3.15 million involving duty/taxes amounting to Rs 2.61 million. The vehicles include Toyota Corolla model 1996 worth Rs 350,000, Toyota Hiace Van worth Rs 1 million and two Hino Trucks worth Rs 1.8 million.
Meanwhile, it has also impounded seven other vehicles worth Rs 7.87 million, which were being used for the transportation of the smuggled items.
During October, 3790 kilograms of auto parts worth Rs 457,642, 23,600 kg of smuggled dates (khajoor) worth Rs 753,287, 3150 kg of black tea worth Rs 1.01 million, 1,702 kg of raisin (kishmish) worth Rs 255,300, tiles worth Rs 4.955 million, 7,722 kg of smuggled silk cloth worth Rs 4.02 million were seized by ASO, besides arresting accused persons.
The ASO team conducted raids on different routes in its jurisdiction.
