Faisalabad ASO seizes green tea, socks worth Rs3,50,000

FAISALABAD: The Anti Smuggling Organization (ASO) has seized non duty paid foreign origin socks and tea worth Rs3,50,000  involving duty and taxes amounting to Rs 55000.

Sources told to Customs Today that Collector Zulfikar Ali Chaudhary received credible information about some smuggling attempts. The collector immediately constituted a special team, comprising Superintendent Saeed Akhtar Joiya and Inspectors Ali Zahid, Mehmood Ahmed Dogar, Dilawar Hussain, Liaqat Ali, Muhammad Naeem and Muhammad Ashraf.

The ASO team intercepted a Mazda vehicle bearing registration no: LES-11-3885 near Sabzi Mandi Jhang Road and recovered 500 kilogram of smuggled socks made in China and green tea 175 kilograms from the bus. The ASO seized all the items under Section 2(s) read with SRO 566(1)/2005 and Section 16, 18 of the Customs Act-1969 with Section 3 of Sales Tax Act-1990, Section 148 of Income Tax Ordinance-2001.

The consignment was being transported from Jhang city to Faisalabad. The team asked the driver who was identified as Abdul Wahab son of Abdullah and his accomplice Bashir Khan son of Hakeem Khan to produce legal documents of the loaded goods but he failed to show any legal documents.

The Anti Smuggling Organization, after registering a case against accused, forwarded the case to the Customs Adjudication for further proceedings.
