Faisalabad ASO seizes non-duty paid tyres, cigarettes

FAISALABAD: The Model Customs Collectorate Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) has confiscated smuggled tyres, tubes, and cigarettes worth Rs 204,500 during a successful action and registered a case against alleged smugglers.

Following the instruction of Collector Dr Zulifqar Ali Chaudhary, the ASO team launched a campaign in the region under the supervision of Additional Collector Muhammad Saeed Asad.

Sources told Customs Today that the ASO team raided near bus stand Sargodha and intercepted a bus bearing registration number LEE-2057 and recovered contraband items that’s were being transported from Lahore to Faisalabad. During the checking of vehicle the recovered foreign origin tyres (9-nos), cigarettes (4-ctn), worth Rs204500 involving customs duty and taxes Rs639686.

Officials said that all said items were brought into the country without payment of duty and taxes causing loss to national kitty. The team asked the accused person Muhammad Waqas and Muhammad Nadeem (owner) to produce legal documents but they remained failed to produce any evidence regarding the legal import of the items.

The ASO team consisting of Superintendent Saeed Akhtar joiya, Khalid Asraf Noor, Mehmood Ahmed Dogar, Ali Zahid (inspector) and sepoys Muhammad Khalid, Afzaal Hussain, Muhammad Naeem, Liaqat Ali, and Muhammad Ashraf participated in the raids.
