Faisalabad ASO seizes smuggled cloth worth Rs 1.14m

FAISALABAD: The Customs Anti-Smuggling Organisation (ASO) has confiscated 280 kilograms of foreign origin cloth worth Rs 1.14 million involving duty and taxes amounting to Rs 481,394.

Sources told Customs Today that Additional Collector Muhammad Saeed Asad received information that non-duty paid foreign origin Boski cloth would be smuggled into Faisalabad.

He constituted an ASO team comprising Superintendent Saeed Akhtar Joiya, Inspectors Khalid Ashraf Noor, Ali Zahid, Sepoys Muhammad Naeem, Muhammad Khalid, Afzal Hussain, Muhammad Ashraf and Liaqat Ali to conduct the raid.

The ASO team intercepted Kohistan bus bearing Registration No FDS-15-80 and FDS-15-16 near Motorway Interchanger Sargodha Road, Faisalabad for checking that led to the recovery of Boski cloth. The buses were coming from Rawalpindi to Faisalabad. The team asked the drivers named Muhammad Akmal, and Sajid Mehmood to produce the documents regarding the legal import of the cloth but they could not do the same.

The ASO team seized the cloth under Section 2(s), read with SRO 566(1)/2005 Section 16, 18 of the Customs Act, 1969 and forwarded the case to Customs Adjudication for further proceedings.
