Faisalabad Customs Adjudication orders to seize 3,650 yards cloth

FAISALABAD: Customs Adjudication Deputy Collector Asma Hameed has announced the decision in 3,650 yards of smuggled cloth case, declaring the seizure of the cloth lawful.

As per details, Faisalabad Anti-Smuggling Organisation (ASO) had seized the cloth when the officials intercepted a bus bearing Registration No. BYU-001 near Motorway Chowk Sargodha road during checking.

The officials asked the persons concerned Munir Khan and Razia Nasreen to produce the documents, showing the legal import of the cloth but they remained failed; therefore, the silk cloth was seized considering it smuggled. Later, the case was forwarded to Customs Adjudication.

Before the adjudication, ASO Inspector Masued Saeed Chohan represented the department, while the accused person also appeared before the authority.

However the respondent could not present any valid evidence regarding the payment of taxes on the import of cloth thus court ordered for confiscation of the seized cloth in favour of the federal government under Section 156(1)89 of the Customs Act, 1969.
