FAISALABAD: The Customs Intelligence and Investigation impounded a truck along with non-duty paid items worth Rs 8.43 million involving duty/taxes amounting to Rs 3.89 million.
Following the special direction of Customs Intelligence Deputy Director Muhammad Riaz Hussain, the team raided near Tehsil Chowk, Shorkot City, Jhang and intercepted a trailer for checking. The team recovered 24,960 kilogram of tamarind (imli), 1500 kg of cinnamon (darchini), 800 kg of cardamom (elaichi) and 1250 kg of dried ginger.
The Customs Intelligence team comprising Senior Intelligence Officer Muhammad Tahir Iqbal, Intelligence Officers Asghar Mehdi Naqvi and Mansoor Nasir, and sepoys named Mukhtar Ahmad Muhammad Iqbal and Muhammad Rafique asked the driver to produce the documents showing legal import of the items.
But the driver namely as Abdul Hussain could not produce the documents, therefore, the officials seized the items worth Rs 6.13 million under Section 156(1)/90 and 157(2) along with carrier vehicle used for transportation of smuggled goods for the violation of the Customs Act, 1969
The customs team also arrested the accused driver, Abdul Hussain and Muhammad Anwar owner of M/S Aslam and Goods transport Company.
