FAISALABAD: Customs Intelligence and Investigation has seized 301 bags of red chillies worth Rs 1474500 involving/taxes Rs 936307, besides impounding the truck worth Rs800,000, which was being used for the transportation of smuggled goods.
According to sources Additional Director, Azmat Tahira received secret information of smuggling. After which she formed a taem which intercepted a vehicle bearing registration no. E- 9067 (Peshawar , and recovered bags filled with red chillies.
The official asked the driver who was identified as Abdul Ghafar son of Ramzan and owner Umar Farooq to produce the documents regarding customs clearance but they failed to do the same. Therefore, the customs impounded the truck and chilli under Section 168 and 157(2) of the Customs Act, 1969.
The intelligence team comprising Superintendent Mr, Muhammad Rafique Senior Intelligence Officer Zahid Saleem Mirza, Intelligence Officer Mansoor Nasir and Sepoys Khalil Ahmed, Fakhar Abbas, Mukhtar Hussain, Shoukat Hayat, Muhammad Iqbal participated in the raid.
