Faisalabad Customs Intelligence seizes glass beads worth Rs 1.34m

FAISALABAD: The Customs Intelligence and Investigation confiscated 63 cartons of foreign origin glass beads worth Rs 1.349 million involving duty/taxes amounting to Rs 700,000.

As per details, Custom Intelligence Additional Director Azmat Tahira received information regarding the storage of smuggled items in a godown of a cargo agency. She formed team comprising Senior Intelligence Officer Zahid Saleem Mirza, Intelligence Officer Mansoor Nasir, Sepoy Khalil Ahmad and Muhammad Sajjad to seize the smuggled items.

The intelligence team raided M/s Madina Cargo Jhang Road, Faisalabad and recovered glass beads. The team asked the owner to show documents regarding the legal import of the items but he could not produce; therefore, the officials seized items under Section 18 of the Customs Act, 1969 read with Section 3(1)(3) of the Import and Export Control Act 1950 punishable under Section 156(1)90 of the Custom Act, 1969.

The seizure report has been submitted to the adjudication for further legal action.
